A message from Rebecca, SUHN Manager
Over the past year and a half, SUHN has been running on a shoestring — with me only able to put in a handful of hours each month while we wait to see if new funding comes through. Even with so few resources, we’ve kept the newsletter going, hosted a few webinars, and maintained our Thursday Interdisciplinary Drop-In.
And despite the loss of funding, our community has continued to grow. When we launched in 2021, we hoped to reach 200 members within three years. Four years later, we’re nearing 2,000. That growth says so much about the need for this space — and the generosity and commitment of the people in it.
In November, I had the chance to attend the CCSA conference in Halifax. The highlight was our SUHN social. More than 80 people came out, and it was wonderful to connect with so many of you in person!
None of this would have been possible without the extraordinary commitment of Tonya Evans and Andrzej Celinski. With support from the Reclaim team, they’ve kept the Thursday drop-in running and have been instrumental in pulling off our webinars. I’m also deeply grateful to Dr. Carol Strike and Dr. Adrian Guta, whose steady support has helped keep things moving during this very lean period.
In the new year, I’ll be taking a short break for a few weeks. Our hope is that new funding will allow me to return full-time. If things move in the direction we’re hoping for, we’ll also be striking an advisory committee to help guide the next phase of SUHN’s growth.
As we head into the holidays, I’m wishing each of you comfort, care, and love. I’m grateful for every member of this community who shows up, supports one another, and works every day to make the world a better place.
With gratitude and solidarity,
Rebecca
