Ten years after B.C.’s public health emergency declaration, the gap between evidence and policy is widening. Supervised consumption sites save lives, yet across Canada we are seeing closures, restrictions, and a withdrawal of support, despite strong evidence and the knowledge of people who use these services.
This newsletter brings together actions and resources focused on supervised consumption services, and reinforces the need for a full continuum of substance use health care that includes harm reduction.
Our webinar series, What happens when care gets taken away?, continues this conversation. In March, we shared findings from the MySafe final evaluation and the impacts of its closure. On April 23, we’ll present preliminary findings from supervised consumption site closure studies in Ontario. A third session, date to be confirmed, will feature people who have lost access to safer supply programs or supervised consumption services.
We’re also building a supervised consumption services resource hub - a one-stop space for research, evidence, tools, and actions. If you have resources to share, please reach out. We are strongest when we collaborate, coordinate, and act together as a community.
