A recent Alberta-based study on the closure of an overdose prevention site in Red Deer has quickly become a talking point for those seeking to undermine support for supervised consumption services across Canada.
Although serious concerns have been raised about the study’s methods, interpretation, and independence, its findings are already being cited by decision-makers and commentators to create doubt, stall policy support, and help justify defunding or closure efforts.
In that context, easy access to factual information, critical responses, and the broader evidence on SCS is essential.
