Can we make hospitals safe for people who use drugs?

• People do not give up their right to health care, just because they use drugs​
• Patients come to the hospital for necessary medical care, not (necessarily) because they want to stop using drugs​
• Hospital policies (that require abstinence) create harms for people who use drugs
• Hospitals should strive to (at least) offer the standard of care provided by community-based harm reduction programs​
