A public health approach aims to inform programs, services and policies to better protect and promote the health of all Canadians. A public health approach to substance use seeks to maintain and improve the health of populations based on the principles of social justice, attention to human rights and equity, evidence-informed policy, and practice, and addressing the underlying social determinants of health (SDOH).
