          Objective
The aim of this submission is to clarify the research and statistics behind injection-related infections among individuals on safer opioid supply (SOS)--daily dispensed immediate-release hydromorphone.
Findings/Key points
Infections are several times more likely among those injecting controlled release hydromorphone whereas SOS prescribers routinely prescribe immediately release hydromorphone tablets. Likewise, those on SOS have a much higher rate of previous hospitalization due to injection-related infection, which is reduced upon initiation of SOS treatment.
